2021 Photo Contest Winners!

Get Yourself Some Happy!

PHOTO CONTEST WINNER AND FINALISTS ANNOUNCED!

For many years, I commented to friends and family that “happiness” was an underrated value in our society. One of the friends who fully agreed with my assessment was TONY® and DAYTIME EMMY® AWARD Winner Lillias White.

So, in July 2019, Lillias and I decided to do something about it. We recorded 14 classic tracks all re-invented for today’s audiences. Released in July 2021, the theme of Lillias’ album is “happiness.” The title? “Get Yourself Some Happy!”

We at Berkshire Magazine felt the world could use some extra cheer this holiday season, and when we discussed possible themes for the fourth annual photo contest, “Get Yourself Some Happy!” seemed a perfect fit.

It was such a joy to review the many submissions, because they captured the freedom, whimsy, absurdity, silliness, and love that often go hand-in-hand with “happy.” I had the genuine pleasure of serving as a judge alongside Susan Wissler (Executive Director of The Mount) and Jennifer Trainer Thompson (President and CEO of Hancock Shaker Village). I would like to personally thank all of the photographers who shared their work for our consideration, and I wish to recognize them all at left.

The contest entry fees raised just under $200, which is being donated to the Brien Center in Pittsfield (briencenter.org).

And last, but not least, I wish to thank BRAVA Wine Bar & Restaurant (and its owner, Whitney Asher) for donating dinner for two for this year’s winning prize. BRAVA is located at 65 Church Street in Lenox (bravalenox.com).

This year’s winning entry is “Catching Some Berkshire Air!” by Kara Thornton, who shared, “Watching this rider catch some air…was a really fun and happy sight for me! The rider looks pretty happy, too!”
